Im working on a Playing Card themed series right now, doing portraits of the face cards and joker in square format.

The goal is to expand on the standard card graphics, yet retain some of the simple abstract/pattern based qualities that people readily associate with a deck of cards.

edit: changed background color to add some contrast, fixed a few bugs, and added lines to the shirt pattern.

I like it. The colors are really nice together--I don't normally care for neutrals, but you make them really work with the red. But she looks so sad. Why is she so sad?

I dunno why she's sad... it just seemed like an interesting idea to have a depressed queen. I also want to vary the expressions of the face cards, and make them expressive as opposed to blank, and a sad expression will contrast well with what might be an angry king or laughing joker :)

It's all the more striking that she's the queen of hearts. I think an angry king, sad queen, and laughing jack would make for an interesting story.

Angry king is in the works as we speak, its almost a necessity if the woman is sad :P. As far as the jack I may do nonchalant, because the joker will probably be some form of laughing.

Yep, I will do a picture of each of the face cards plus the joker, each in a different suit. King is looking to be clubs, jack will be diamonds, and the joker will be spades... or maybe the joker will be diamonds i don't know :P
